What is mgetty+sendfax

mgetty+sendfax is a free fax server for unix machines. It has been developed by Gert Doering. Although it's free, I have to say that it is as good as some commercial faxes I've used, and best of all, it's very easy to modify to work the way you want, because the main programs are shell scripts.

 

What is gtFax

gtFax is a free windows front-end for mgetty+sendfax. It adds the possibility of sending faxes from any PC connected to the network. It has an address book so you can store the fax numbers you use frequently, and you can also send a fax to several destinations.

Despite other mgetty clients I've seen, gtFax works without any program installed in the Unix box. All you have to do in Unix is set permissions for the users in the PCs to run ftp and rsh, which should be pretty easy.

I wrote gtFax after installing mgetty in a few branches of the company I work for. Then, users asked for a PC interface to use the service, so after trying a couple of front-ends I found on the net, I decided to write my own program. I'm not saying gtFax is the best of all, just that its configuration is easy and that it works as I wanted.

 

Languages

At the moment gtFax is available in Spanish and English only, and don't expect me to translate it into any other language unless you are willing to help me. If so, send me a mail and I will send you a text file with the messages in English so you can send me another file back with the equivalent sentences.

 

Registration

Since gtFax is a free program, you don't need to register your copy. Feel free to use it in as many PCs as you like. In any case I would like to know how many people are using my software, so I would appreciate you sending me a mail
